Waterloo Centre
A group class for those with a term's experience, taught in the digital piano classroom. Learn basic piano technique, including simple scales, chords and pieces, as well as music reading, working towards Grade 1 (ABRSM) standard.
Sessions will be delivered in the digital keyboard classroom with one keyboard per student. Playing individually to the tutor Listening to tutor explanation and demonstration. Playing with and to others in the class. Listening to others and group discussion Aural and theory exercises
You will need to have some basic keyboard and music reading skills and ideally you will have completed the Piano 1A course. You will need to have access to a piano (acoustic or digital) outside class and be able/willing to do short, regular practice sessions between classes: at least 10-15 minutes, at least 4 times a week.
You should be careful when playing the piano to maintain good posture and take regular breaks to stretch and relax, to avoid overuse injuries. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. Your progress towards achieving the learning outcomes will be reviewed throughout the course. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e.: progression to another course. Excellent attendance and punctuality is required from all students. This course requires study/completion of activities outside of class time.
Notebook, pencil and eraser, and manuscript paper for music notation. Text to be advised by the tutor. Other materials to be supplied by the tutor. The College provides headphones for all student but you are encouraged to bring your own headphones to the class.
