What you will learn

Everyone knows that starting a new course of study can be challenging, so this short, Get Ready add-on to your main course is designed to take the stress out of your learning journey at Morley College. You will be introduced to some basic skills and knowledge that will smooth your way into understanding your course, the College and its systems. At the end of the two weeks, you will be better prepared to make the most of your learning whilst taking another step towards achieving your goals.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of what fusion skills are and their importance in learning and work..
  • Evaluate your own existing fusion skills and identify areas for improvement and development.
  • Access common digital tools and software, such as your student email and MS Teams software.
  • Use your student email to read messages.
  • Develop strategies, such as time management and note-taking to support effective learning
  • Integrate English language, math and IT skills to solve problems and complete tasks

Class format and activities

You will work on developing some key functional skills in English, maths and IT that will support your learning. You will learn through tutor instruction, discussion, group and independent work. Achievement will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets.

Entry requirements

There are no specific knowledge prerequisites for this course. It is designed for individuals with very limited computer experience. English language at entry level 2 or above. All new students must take an initial assessment before enrolling, and assessment dates are regularly updated on our website. If you are a progressing student from one of our Computer Skills for Beginners classes, your tutor will assess whether you're ready to join this class or discuss alternative routes. This decision will be based on your progress towards set targets, attendance, homework, and assessment records.

What you need to know before you enrol

This course and the progression "Computer Skills for Work Entry Level" run once a week, and you are expected to attend every session. A minimum of 90% attendance and punctuality is required from all students. In addition to attending classes, you will need to dedicate some personal study time to complete homework using a computer or digital device. Please set aside at least 2 hours per week for these activities. Before enrolling, evaluate your existing commitments and ensure you have access to a digital device with an internet connection outside the timetabled class hours before you join the Computer Skills for Work Entry Level class.. This will be essential for completing weekly homework, revision, and practice.

What you need

You will need writing materials, a notebook, and access to a computer or tablet with an internet connection for your homework. Also, bring a positive attitude and a willingness to actively participate in class discussions, ask questions, and engage with the class. Having a growth mindset and a genuine enthusiasm for learning will contribute to your success!

If you have excellent attendance and achieve at least 4 of the above learning outcomes, you will be advised to progress to your main course.
