What you will learn

This course offers a fun, engaging and energising space to gain confidence in dancing and creative movement, giving you tools to use your body more effectively and creatively. You will learn movement foundations and core principles such as weight and how to use it to propel, initiate and modify movement; using levels and different dynamics; recognising and applying different movement qualities; initiating movement from different body parts; using the core to support your movement. Drawing from various contemporary dance vocabularies as well as other dance forms such as street dance styles, you will gain body awareness and confidence to move more effectively, safely and creatively.

  • Use your body more efficiently, safely and creatively
  • Understand and work with elements of dance technique in your body.
  • Express yourself with more confidence and ease through dance and creative movement.
  • Perform and apply foundational elements of contemporary dance and some street styles.

    Creative tasks facilitated and guided by the tutor; set tasks with tutor demonstration; working individually, in pairs and as a group.

    Entry requirements

    The course is open to all, and adaptations will be made to different abilities, however please note, as this is a physical class a good level of fitness to endure low to intense exercise is required.

    Comfortable clothes you can move in. We may do ‘floorwork’ on some of the classes, so better to have long sleeve & trousers option. Socks & trainers
