Develop a range of beading skills, including wirework & chain maille on this evening jewellery workshop. Suitable for beginners or students with experience who are looking to extend their skills with the help of an experienced tutor.
This is a practical class, so each week we will go through a new technique that can be used within beaded jewellery design. We will start by learning how to create a beaded rosary chain. Using the skills we’ve learnt we will make a wire wrapped piece of jewellery, incorporating beads, followed by chandelier earrings and a tree of life pendant. For the last session we will learn the basics of chain maille. Every session you will create a practice piece of your choice using the materials provided and the skills demonstrated. During the course there will be on-going discussions and examples of wire working, with examples and advice of what wire to use when & the best tools to use. There will be an emphasis on sharing knowledge and experience, through discussion, show and tell and group crit. , The tutor will facilitate group discussions and work with the students one-to-one and in groups.
No previous experience of jewellery making is necessary. Enthusiasm is an asset!
This is a practical course and will require hand skills for working with wires and beads. Glasses or magnification may be required for intricate work.
You will be provided with the basic materials & equipment for each session, but as your skills progress it may be worth bringing any beads you have to incorporate into designs created during the course. If you wish to progress with the techniques you are learning on the course a comprehensive list of suggested tools and materials will be provided during the first session, along with suppliers. Hand-outs for each new technique covered will be available, but a notebook & pen is strongly recommended
