What you will learn

An introduction to the art of storytelling with the leading practitioner Eli Anderson. Develop your creative, as well as, emotive and playful approach to your delivery. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the following learning outcomes. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e. progression to an advanced-level course.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand and apply techniques of delivery that will ensure an audience are "with you", from start to finish
  • Critically assess the quality of a story and make informed choices about the best environment for its telling
  • Develop critical skill in appraising each other and learn the skills of constructive and supportive feedback

Class format and activities

Listening to a master storyteller - assessing the key techniques involved Developing your own practice through actual storytelling, reflection and adjustment Examining & considering the art of storytelling through history, different cultures and mediums. The tutor may provide additional material such as video recaps and/or practical tasks via any of the online platforms supported by the College (Moodle, MS stream, GoogleClassroom).

What you need to know before you enrol

There will be movement and other physical exercises as part of the programme. Excellent attendance and punctuality will be required from all students. This course will include some completion of activities outside of class time, e.g. preparation of favourite exercises to share with fellow students.
