Introduction to Stained Glass

There is an emphasis on practical learning through the creation of your own stained glass panels. After looking at and discussing examples and samples, the teacher will demonstrate techniques of designing patterns, cutting glass and lead, and how to build your panels. You will then produce a small panel to practise all the techniques. Following that, you will design a second panel to make during the remainder of the course. Throughout the course, the teacher will work with students in groups and one-to-one at the different stages of the process

The course involves standing for most of the processes. The studio is on the 3rd floor of the main building, there is lift access. Although suitable safety equipment is provided to everyone we do not recommend this course if you are pregnant. Appropriate Health and Safety guidance will be given throughout the course.

You will need to wear sturdy shoes, boots or trainers (no open sandals). You should wear old clothes or an apron. It would also be helpful to bring: Sketchbook/ notebook A4 Pencils/ coloured pencils/ pens Marker pen (Pilot Sign pen is good) All tools you will require will be supplied. The course provides an excellent grounding in the techniques necessary to make leaded lights. You could continue to develop your skills with further intermediate stained glass classes and other courses at Morley College.
