This is an intensive, fast-paced accredited course which prepares students for GCSE(9-1) Mathematics Foundation Tier exam. The course runs twice a week for 2 hours per session and covers all the topics of the new GCSE(9-1) Maths Foundation curriculum in one academic year. The new GCSE maths syllabus has a focus on problem solving and mathematical thinking. You will learn particular mathematical techniques, with an emphasis on solving real world problems. This course is only open to students who have not previously gained an A-C / 4-5 grade in GCSE Maths. Not all students who apply are offered a place. However, where possible, students are advised of alternative courses within the maths department
On successful completion of the course, you will achieve the following qualification: GCSE (9-1) in Mathematics [EDEXCEL]
Students will attend one lesson per week at the North Kensington site. Assessment methods: Achievement on your course will be measured by formative and self - assessment against the learning outcomes. The final exam consists of three papers (May/June session) Your progress towards achieving the learning outcomes will be reviewed throughout the course. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets linked to the learning outcomes and future goals.
All new students can come in to take an initial assessment and interviewed to check their current skills and suitability for this course.
This course runs once a week (three hours per lesson), students are expected to attend every lesson. A minimum of 95% attendance and punctuality are required from all students. This course requires some personal study time in addition , please set aside an average of 5 hours per week for these activities. Achievement on your course will be measured by completion of 3 exams in May/June 2023.
You will need a Casio FX-83GTX or FX-85GTX scientific calculator, writing materials, a notebook, geometry set and a computer/tablet for teams access (Mobile phone alone may not be suitable for completing maths assignments) with Internet access.
