There are other versions of this course available. We’ve listed them below and summarized the differences between the one that you are currently viewing.
This course will enable Learners to grasp a basic understanding of subject-specific skills and specialist materials: our expert tutor will guide you through a range of essential glass-forming techniques: you will be introduced to glass as a raw material, alongside kiln-forming processes necessary for the handling and cutting of glass, together with specific construction processes for fusing, slumping and small scale fuse-to-cast glass techniques. You are encouraged to develop individual design ideas from visual research to produce a range of glass test pieces exploring taught techniques, culminating in the creation of final decorative or functional glass forms.
You will be working on set tasks undertaken within individual projects guided by your expert glass tutor, Anna Chrysopoulo. Teaching takes place in a practical workshop setting, including both demonstration and discussion. Informal assessment will take place on a continual basis throughout the course using observation, one to one discussions, as well as a group Learner presentation at the end of the course outlining the development of your glass forms. To ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
This course is suitable for beginners. This course aims to establish techniques and develop personal work and visual identity through individual guidance and support. For more information about the course contact the glass lecturer: Anna.Chrysopoulo@morleycollege.ac.uk
The fee includes tuition, specialist materials, alongside use of specialist equipment, including glass kiln firings etc. However, Learners will be expected to purchase some of their own Kiln-formed glass materials such as alternative glass types (guidance will be given by the tutor in the first session). You may need to purchase your own small tools, and possibly some additional materials as advised by your tutor.
It would be helpful to bring a sketchbook/notebook, pencils/pen/marker pen etc. You will need to wear sturdy shoes, boots or trainers (no open sandals); an apron. We have basic tools in the workshop which have been adapted to facilitate a safe learning environment. Glass and other materials are available for sale to students, however, Learners may want to buy or bring in their own resources, to have a wider variety in choice of materials.
