What you will learn

If you want to improve your English and you are not yet at an intermediate level, then this course is for you! You have passed your ESOL Entry 1 exams or understand and speak English at a pre-intermediate level. You read and write in your language and use the Roman alphabet. In this class, you will develop your English and prepare for exams.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Obtain relevant information from short written text
  • Trace main events in a short written text
  • Understand the meaning of words in short written text
  • Use features of text to identify the purpose of short written texts

On successful completion of the course, you will achieve the following qualification: Award in ESOL Skills for Life (Reading) (Entry 2) [CG]

Class format and activities

You will experience a wide and varied range of activities such as listening, role play, reading aloud, writing activities, quizzes, word searches and other games as well as using YouTube, interactive whiteboard and computers to help you learn. Good progress throughout your course will depend on good attendance, regular practice of what you learn in class and completing any homework that your tutor will set.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirement but you need to do an assessment to check your level and ensure that the course is suitable for you.

What you need to know before you enrol

You should be able to read and write in English and use the Roman alphabet. You need to be able to attend every class. If you cannot attend a class, you need to inform your teacher beforehand. A minimum attendance of 90% is required

What you need

Ideally, you will need a folder in which to keep all your class materials, a notebook and a pen, access to a computer (or mobile phone) and the internet, and a positive attitude.

What you can do next

After successful completion of this course you will be able to enrol onto another element of the Entry 2 course, for example writing. Once all elements of the course are complete you will be able to enrol onto Entry 3.
