What you will learn

Suitable for players with at least two years' experience or at Grade 4/5 (ABRSM) standard. Further develop your technique, musicianship and knowledge of repertoire through solo and ensemble playing.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • play with improved technique, articulation and expression to an intermediate standard
  • demonstrate improved sight-reading skills up to position IV
  • play a selection of specially designed technical exercises
  • play with awareness of style
  • play a variety of solo and ensemble pieces

Class format and activities

A mixture of explanations, demonstrations, personal practice, group work and performances. You will need to follow and contribute to discussions in English. Music Study can include the use of digital resources such as listening to recordings, watching videos online, using appropriate mobile applications and following Moodle -Morley's virtual learning environment- to enhance your learning inside and outside the classroom. Music study also offers a range of benefits including being an enjoyable way to enhance wellbeing. Music practice at Morley can also serve to enhance skills relevant for employment including developing creativity, developing high-concentration levels, building self-confidence, working to deadlines, being able to control nerves and working as part of a team.

You should play at around Grade 4/5 standard.

What you need to know before you enrol

Students should be able to learn in a group environment and follow instructions. Excellent attendance and punctuality is required from all students. This course requires study/completion of activities outside of class time.

Classical guitar, footstool or any other kind of support, pencil, books as suggested by the tutor.
