What you will learn

Further develop your technique, music-reading, musicianship, and knowledge of simple repertoire. Suitable for players with one terms' experience. Advance to playing at around Grade 2 (ABRSM) level.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • play several classical pieces in more than one part using thumb and fingers
  • sightread notes E F G A B C D E F on strings 6, 5 and 4
  • complete the tests on aural awareness and musical knowledge at ABRSM grade 1 level
  • play the scales of harmonic minor in A and E
  • perform classical ensemble pieces in several parts

Class format and activities

The course broadly follows the Trinity College Grade One requirements. Students will work at both solo and ensemble repertoire.

Entry requirements

This course is suitable for guitarists who has completed two terms of this course or equivalent, i.e. ability to sightread simple classical melodies in the first position and demonstrate good classical guitar playing techniques.

What you need to know before you enrol

Students are expected to practise regularly: 20 mins daily for 4 days per week.

Classical guitar, footstool or guitar support. Tutor Book as suggested by teacher. A pencil and a ring binder to organise sheet music and handouts
