What you will learn

If you have some guitar playing experience (acoustic or electric) and a few songs, chords and scales under your belt, and are ready to investigate a new style, then this is the class for you. Blues underpins many popular music styles, but it's more than just three chords. After a quick introduction and assessment with your tutor, you will gain some valuable knowledge and skills relating to fingerpicking and getting the blues right. A good, fun, group learning experience.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Play some 12 bar fingerpicking arrangements
  • Keep a simple, steady bass rhythm with your thumb
  • Play various licks
  • Play licks based on chord shape knowledge
  • Improvise while keeping rhythm

Entry requirements

You will have a strong interest in blues guitar playing and a desire to improve.

Homework will be given every week and students must be prepared to spend time doing the given assignments and preparing tunes for performance in class.
