This beginners course will teach you all the techniques necessary to design and create your own stained glass 'leaded light' panels .Learn to design workable patterns, cutting glass, leading and soldering. After the first of two projects, the materials for the second panel will be charged at cost price.
There is an emphasis on practical learning through the creation of your own stained glass panels. After looking at and discussing examples and samples, the teacher will demonstrate techniques of designing patterns, cutting glass and lead, and how to build your panels. You will then produce a small panel to practise all the techniques. Following that, you will design a second panel to make during the remainder of the course. Throughout the course, the teacher will work with students in groups and one-to-one at the different stages of the process
The course is suitable for complete beginners, or those who have some previous knowledge but would like further guidance and/or practice.
The course involves standing for a lot of the processes. The studio is on the 3rd floor of the main building, there is lift access. Although suitable safety equipment is provided for everyone we do not recommend this course if you are pregnant. Appropriate Health and Safety guidance will be given throughout the course. , All of the materials and tools needed to complete the course are provided. Please wear sturdy shoes, boots or trainers (no open sandals) and bring an apron or work shirt with you; , It would also be helpful to bring; , . A Sketchbook/ notebook A4 and pencils, coloured pencils and pens; , . A marker pen is also useful , After making your initial small panel , you will need to pay for glass, lead and solder, which will be available at cost price in the class. This cost is likely to be around £15 depending on the size of your work and the type of glass used
