What you will learn

Develop an understanding of the mind and behaviour through increasing your understanding of Psychology. Designed for those curious about why humans behave the way they do. This short course offeres a comprehensive overview into different psychological approaches and the practical applications that have developed in various settings, including health and social care, clinical, educational and law. Embark on a journey to understand the complexities of psychology and how it developed as a discipline. Your understanding of psychology will be enriched through various learning activities, such as; role play, discussion, research and case studies.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the foundational approaches in psychology and their practical applications.
  • Understand the role that biological, psychological and social factors play in stress and well-being.
  • Know how situational factors influence behaviour.

  • Class format and activities

    This course is held at the Waterloo Centre. The emphasis will be active learning through interaction. There will be discussions in pairs and small groups and larger group. There will be teacher input and handouts. You will also be asked to keep a reflective learning journal. Towards the end of the course you will be asked to prepare a written piece of work which demonstrates your learning on the course and is suitable to your level of study.

    Entry requirements

    This is a beginners course and is equivalent to a Level 1 course. No previous experience or qualifications are required. Participants are asked to come willing to share their experiences and be open to the diverse views, perspectives and experiences of other students. You should be able to speak English fluently to be able to listen and respond in discussions. .

    This course is for beginners. A good command of both written and spoken English will allow you to fully participate and engage in classroom activities and complete written tasks.

    Laptop/tablet/paper and pen. You will need to download MS Teams in order to access your classes learning support materials.
