What you will learn

This intensive course is aimed at people who want to learn to draw or improve their skills but who can’t commit to a longer course. Sessions will cover different strategies for drawing from direct observation, giving a solid foundation for development. Materials provided in first session.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Measure and compare the proportions of an object
  • Make a line drawing from direct observation
  • Produce a full range of tones from pencil and charcoal
  • Analyse and draw the negative spaces around objects

Entry requirements

This course is aimed at beginners and those wishing to refresh their drawing skills.

What you need

For onsite learners: some basic materials are provided, and additional paper and other materials are available for purchase at a low cost. Alternatively, you may wish to bring your own materials. A set of drawing pencils (HB - 8B are all suitable) Eraser or putty rubber Pencil sharpener Box of willow charcoal sticks Sketchbook or paper (A4 or larger).

This course offers a basic grounding in observational drawing. You may develop your skills and understanding in one of the longer courses offered at Morley in Drawing or Painting & Drawing such as Drawing for Beginners or Drawing Intermediate..
