What you will learn

On this course, you will learn about news production in radio. You will deliver bulletins and reports to deadlines. You will also use portable kit to do interviews on location. You will then prepare material for a sequence of programming to be broadcast live on air as part of a summer Morley Radio Takeover.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Create a Radio News show – including bulletins, reports, and studio discussions
  • Use portable kit and Adobe Audition to produce broadcast material
  • Give examples of Broadcast Compliance: Language appropriate for Radio and how to deal with it
  • Prepare for the Morley Takeover – pitching, planning, and building a live sequence of music and magazine shows

Entry requirements

A strong interest in radio Access outside of class to a basic recording set up (PC or Mac computer, audio interface, recording software such as Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, etc. and basic microphone) is strongly recommended. Some experience of using Apple computers would be an advantage, but support during class will be given. Basic computer skills, file management, etc.

What you need to know before you enrol

A certain amount of homework is required. Due to the nature of the content of the course you might be exposed to high volume levels. We strongly encourage everyone to bring a pair of ear plugs to every lesson.
