This course offers an invigorating day learning the beginning part of the Chen Taiji Jian (Sword Form). The sword or Jian is the oldest of the traditional weapons. Practice improves balance, coordination and flexibility. As an extension to the hand forms, the sword form stretches and strengthens the joints of the body and makes the postures more open and expansive. Flexibility in the wrists and hands, lightness of footwork and agility in the waist are hallmarks of the sword form. This Taiji sword form develops the internal twining of the Chen forms. When performed correctly and gracefully, it is said to resemble a dragon swimming through water. Throughout the class exercise options and adaptations suitable to all levels of ability will be offered by the tutor. Advice will be given on safe and effective techniques to comfortably perform the moves, gently increasing flexibility and mobility.
