Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe things and people using common phrases and adjectives (e.g., tall, young, expensive) and carry out simple transactions (e.g., in shops)
  • Listen for the gist of a short conversation
  • Read a range of common phrases and signs, e.g. shopping lists
  • Give basic information in writing, e.g. personal details, short emails

Class format and activities

Practicing speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills Learning through practical activities (individual tasks, role-plays, pair, and small group work, games,) Writing basic single words and short sentences, e.g. gap-filling, grammar exercises Following and giving simple presentations Listening for the gist or basic information Revising topics (e.g. vocabulary) and grammar points.

Entry requirements

We recommend completing Arabic Stage 1 Term 1 or 20-24 hours of study before enrolling for this course. If you are not sure of your level, contact the Languages department and we will be happy to advise on the most suitable course for you.
