What you will learn

This is a one-year (three-term) course which will help you get prepared for ESOL Level 2 and will give you essential skills for work to help support your employment. Each term will develop all four skills and will help develop your range of language (vocabulary and grammatical structures) by studying a variety of different topics throughout the year. You will be assessed on your general English throughout the course. Also, a number of employability skills will be assessed during the course, such as creating your own CV, writing a letter of application and taking part in a job interview. On successful completion of the course, you will be well prepared to undertake ESOL Level 2 and you will receive the following qualification: NCFE Level 1 Award in Employability Skills

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

Communicate more fluently and with more confidence in both your speaking and writing skills.
Understand and develop a wider range of vocabulary and structures as you progress through the course.
Read and understand a wider range of texts and topics.
Write a cover letter for a job with an updated CV.
Prepare for and take part in a job interview, using a range of appropriate language.

Class format and activities

This course is in college. All the lessons will take place in one of the newly-renovated classrooms. You will work individually, in pairs, in small groups or as a whole class group. You will also have the chance to talk on a one-to-one level with your tutor. You will experience a wide and varied range of activities, such as listening to audio, role play, interviews/pair-work, group discussions, reading, writing activities, quizzes, as well as the use of YouTube videos, other helpful websites and an interactive whiteboard to help you learn. Everything that you learn will help you in your daily life and work. You will have an individual learning plan with targets that are personal to you.

Entry requirements

This is a post ESOL Level 1 course. You will take an initial assessment which will determine your current level of English.

What you need to know before you enrol

• Attending 2 classes of 3 hours per week (6 hours a week) • A minimum of 90% attendance per term • Completion of homework (1-2 hours a week)

• A pen. • A notebook to make notes from the lessons. • A folder to store materials from the course.
