What you will learn

This is an introduction to Black British Writers. It will focus on writers from the 20th and 21st centuries, but will also look at some earlier ones. This course is suitable for anyone who wants to be conversation with some common forms and themes amongst the writers

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • refer to several Black British authors and their main work
  • understand their concerns and how these were explored artistically
  • understand various forms of writing (i.e. song, performance poetry and dub poetry)

Class format and activities

Lessons will rely heavily on classroom discussion after an initial presentation of topics.
