Announcing Morley Gallery’s spring/summer season

Sixteen shows – ranging from textiles to sound art – feature in Morley Gallery’s spring/summer term line-up, with shows taking place across all three of Morley’s teaching centres.

Matthew Cunningham, Chief Marketing and Engagement Officer for Morley College London, said: “Spring and summer is always a productive time for Morley’s visual artists, and in 2024 we’re planning for our busiest season ever.

“In May, for the first time we’ll be shining a light on the Makers of Morley – so do drop into MADE at Morley Gallery to see the best of Morley students’ work in the very ‘hands-on’ mediums of jewellery, glass, textiles and more.

“Then as summer approaches, watch for the return of our popular Artists of Morley series – AOM2024 – which spotlights the achievements of our visual arts students across the entire college.”

Showing at Morley Gallery (Westminster Bridge Road)

• MADE @ Morley 1: Textiles and Jewellery
  10th April – 9th May
  Textile students have taken inspiration from motifs and words used to signal ideas and reflect cultural Zeitgeist. Jewellery have worked to the theme of repurposing materials alongside traditional jewellery making skills. While our stained glass students have developed designs to introduce colour and light to a given space.
• MADE @ Morley 2: Painting, Drawing and Ceramics
  21st May – 7th June
  Showcasing the outstanding work of Drawing, Painting and Ceramics students attending a wide range of courses here at Morley College London.
• Ceramics End-of-Year Show (part of AOM2024)
  18th – 22nd June
  The culmination of two years’ exploration and learning on the Ceramics HND at Morley Waterloo. The work on display ranges from thrown, cast and hand built creations with an imaginative use of materials, decoration and conceptual ideas.
• Textiles End-of-Year Show (part of AOM2024)
  25th June – 29th June
  This exhibition is a showcase of the Textile Foundation students personal final projects. The works on show has been made over the 10-week summer term and are a culmination of two terms of learning and making.
• Photology 2024: HE Photography End-of-Year Show (part of AOM2024)
  2nd July – 6th July
  The show realises the students’ determination to navigate both digital and analogue landscapes, bringing fresh perspectives to creative communications.

• UAL Foundation in Art & Design End-of-Year Show (part of AOM2024)
  9th July – 13th July
  The culmination of a year’s work by our Foundation students, who benefit from an intensive and structured programme of study in Fine Art Practice that helps generate ideas, develop critical thinking, encourage experimentation and develop research methods.

• The Engine Room: Resonances Sound Art Student Exhibition (part of AOM2024)
  18th July – 1st August
  Through collected, sampled, and manipulated sound, this exhibition provides audiences with a novel perspective on sound.

• Surface Design: HND Ceramics
  Cardew Space, 9th April – 27th April
  Work in progress featuring a range of 2D design developments by first year HND Ceramics students.
• Familiar; Unfamiliar
  Barry Till Gallery, 11th April – 27th April
  The interim show of our current Zsuzsi Roboz Scholars. Both are painters with an interest in figuration depicting the human form within particular domestic and urban environments that also consider the politics of representation.

• Stained Glass
  Foyer, 30th April – 18th May
  This show is made up of the work of students from the Introduction to Stained Glass; the Intermediate Stained Glass; and the Evening Stained Glass workshop.

• A Brush with Paint (part of AOM2024)
  Barry Till Gallery, 7th June – 27th June
  With its focus on personal development, this display ranges from lyrical landscapes to paintings that seek to capture the multi-sensory experience of specific locations, or that imagine a future where Artificial Intelligence is part of the everyday.
• Learning Disability Photography (part of AOM2024)
  Cardew Space, 10th June – 31st July
  An exhibition of work from the weekly class “Photography for Adults with Learning Disabilities”. The students, total beginners, were introduced to Photography principles. Articulating and expressing their thought process through images has been a great self esteem booster.
• ORNAMENT (part of AOM2024)
  Foyer, 14th June – 3rd July
  Featuring the work of our Level 2 Jewellery Certificate students in preparation for running a professional jewellery business. Also features the work of our De Beers Group scholars Shirley Nelson, Ayesha Sureya, Ella Bonomi and India Lawrence who have been generously funded by the De Beers Group.

• CATHARSIS (part of AOM2024)
  21st June – 26th June
  With a passion for collaboration, excitement and playfulness, in this comprehensive exhibition you will find painters working with sound artists, performers linking with musicians, fashion designers collaborating with photographers.

• Brown Baby
  17th May – 1st June
  ‘OPEN – An Open Exhibition’ will be curated by Toby Laurent Belson, and Ron Best, two local artists with decades of experience between them of exhibitions and teaching in the local area.
• Eye & Hand: Ceramics, Glass, Jewellery and Interior Design (part of AOM2024)
  20th June – 28th June
  This exhibition invites you to explore the creativity that thrives within our student community, spanning Ceramics, Glass, Jewellery, and Interior Design.

About Morley Gallery and Exhibitions

Opened in 1968 as part of the Arts Centre in Morley College (now Morley College London), Morley Gallery is now an integral part of College life, with a strong commitment to exhibit work made by Morley students.

Situated in an old pub adjacent to the main College building, Morley Gallery occupies the whole of the basement and ground floors with six imposing windows facing Westminster Bridge Road and King Edward Walk.

The Gallery team works alongside colleagues and students across all three Morley teaching sites to mount a comprehensive exhibition programme, which usually includes exhibitions of painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, ceramics, textiles, installations, digital and sound art by independent artists and groups.
