Please find below the email that was sent to students on 1 March 2021
Dear Student,
I am writing to update you on Morley’s plans following the Government’s announcement of a ‘roadmap out of lockdown’ last Monday.
Returning to learn in-centre
Some students will be invited to return to learn with us in-centre from next Monday 8 March, but the majority of teaching will take place online until the end of this term.
Plans for your return to in-centre learning will depend on the type of course that you are studying, so please do visit this page of our website and click on the relevant section to find out more.
The sections are:
- 16-18 year old students (Note: our Student Services team will be in touch with you again before Monday to discuss specific arrangements about your return)
- Higher Education students
- Adult learners on essential skills courses
- Adult learners on courses that lead to qualifications (“accredited” courses)
- Adult learners on short courses that do not lead to qualifications (“non-accredited” courses)
For students who do return later this month, the health and safety arrangements that were in place late last year will return, including social distancing, one-way systems, hand sanitiser onsite, and enhanced cleaning between classes. In addition, following the latest Government guidance, the use of face coverings will be expanded to teaching spaces as well as communal areas.
Voluntary lateral flow Covid-19 testing will also be offered to all students, with tests initially being conducted at college before being made available for home use. We will publish more detail on our testing arrangements on our website in due course.
Students who are due to complete exams or assessments in the coming months will be contacted separately by the team that runs their course, once we have worked with awarding organisations to understand the arrangements that will apply this year for the courses we offer.
Change of date to summer term
The summer term / term 3 will now commence on Monday 19 April (a week later than the previously advertised Monday 12 April) – this is in part to allow time for the college to put in place arrangements that relate to step 2 of the Government’s roadmap, which will come into effect “not before 12 April”. The term will end a week later than previously advertised, on 17 July, but the half term break (week commencing 31 May) will be unaffected by this change.
Future updates
Any updates to our approach to Covid-19 will be shared on the Morley website, which is easily accessed via our new MyDay portal – available either online or by downloading the app onto your Android or iOS device: simply search for “Morley MyDay” on your device’s app store. Click on the red Covid-19 icon for fast access to the latest updates.
Thank you for your patience, and for your continued commitment to learning with Morley College London.
Yours faithfully,
Dr Andrew Gower
Principal and Chief Executive
