Morley achieves Mayor’s Skills Academies Programme Quality Mark  

The Quality Mark initiative aims to enhance the Further Education sector by ensuring the delivery of industry-relevant training.

This programme supports accessible and practical education that helps Londoners secure employment. It also raises the profile of high-quality training among employers and job seekers and creates a network of specialised training providers focused on meeting industry needs.

Quality Mark for Creative Skills

Morley has two categories that the Quality Mark for creative skills is assessed by and these are related to work experience and enrichment. These include:  

• Employability and wider outcomes: Reviewing how students have developed employability skills through various events and initiatives.  

• Providing experiences outside the classroom for informal learning’ and links to Collaboration with partners.  

Employability and wider outcomes: Case study: Silvasheep   

Morley’s Level 4 FAD Fashion students are attracting attention with their latest industry project – a collaboration with regeneration farming enterprise SilvaSheep to design and create garments for adventurer Lise Wortley’s upcoming Mont Blanc expedition. This partnership, which began last October, blends fashion, history, and environmental sustainability.

SilvaSheep provided a special batch of raw wool for the students, culminating in an impressive exhibition at the Chelsea Centre hub. Following the exhibition, Lise handpicked six design students to craft a historically inspired coat and accessories, with guidance from Morley and a clothing historian from Goldsmiths College, set to debut during Lise’s expedition in August 2024.  

“Partnering with Silvasheep is a privilege for Morley fashion students. Working with natural fibres directly from farmers provides invaluable insight into the traditional processes of textile production. From a sustainability perspective, they gain a deep appreciation for the value of locally sourced materials,” said Christina Mhando, Programme Area Manager for Fashion. 

Lise Wortley’s “Woman with Altitude” project revives the stories of overlooked female adventurers by using period-accurate gear, highlighting their incredible journeys. Her partnership with Morley College London students enriches her project and provides invaluable real-world experience for the students.
